Does Online Poker Still have a Place for US Players

US Poker Players Can Still Play Online

Despite the UIGEA and the legislation that put a stop to online poker play in the US, there is still a will, and there is still a way. Pioneer online poker sites like PartyPoker straight up dumped US poker players from their sites. Where once, as US players, we were revered and acclaimed, we are now outcasts. These sites were too scared to keep us on board as real-money players and demoted us to play-money accounts, if even that. But some sites, however, did carry us through to the new-age of anti-US online poker play, braving the new frontier of the unknown legalities of shouldering US players.

When skimming through the “About Us” or “Rules” or “Deposit Options” information of online poker rooms, you’ll often feel that pang, that stab in the back, when you read, “US players not allowed” or “this website does not allow US players.” It hurts. After all the ground we, as a nation, covered, and then shared with the world, we are now simply, “not allowed.” It’s one thing for the US Congress to ground us from our privileges, but for the websites that we proudly called our poker homes to straight up deny us is just hurtful, when other sites are more than happy to get their cut of US poker money.

I remember the day the decision was made that the following day would be the end of online poker for US players. I went to my computer the next morning and had a moment of silence as my PartyPoker.com account was nothing more than a play-money account. I mourned for a while, until I realized that what I thought was my only online poker ally, was really just one of the only online poker rooms that actually cut its US players off.

With so many sites now allowing US players to play via loopholes in the deposit options and jurisdictions, there’s no excuse for any site to not allow US players. Perhaps if there wasn’t such a stand being taken against US players across the world, it wouldn’t be such a big deal for Congress to fight it. If all online poker sites opened their doors to US players, how could online poker play by US players be regulated at all?

There is definitely still a place for US poker players online, and as long as there are US poker players looking for accepting online poker rooms, they will find them. Below is a current but not complete list of online poker rooms that welcome US players, accompanied by a list of those who do not:
